San Diego Main Library

LSW is responsible for the power, lighting, signal and data system design of this new nine-story, high-rise library. Electrical system design will be in accordance with the 1999 National Electrical Code (NEC), the 1996 National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70, the 1997 Uniform Building Code (UBC), and the NFPA 101 - Life Safety Code, National Electrical Manufacturers' Association (NEMA).

The project is scheduled to be "Leeds" certified to the "Silver" level. The project will feature photovoltaic cells for energy consumption offset, unique lighting design and a state-of-the-art data communication infrastructure.

The site, comprising approximately 1½ city blocks, also includes a performing arts auditorium and a courtyard area capable of accommodating up to 2,000 guests, with an outdoor cafe. In addition to the nine-floor library and auditorium, a 260-car, two-level underground parking structure will also be included in the project.

Construction time is scheduled to take approximately thirty months and to be completed in late 2005.
