This facility has recovered its construction cost and, according to an audit by the local utility company, provides the owner with an annual positive cash flow.
Two (2) engine-driven generators produce 800 kW at 480-volts each. This power is utilized primarily by the hospital and surplus power is sold to the utility. Control systems designed by LSW ensure that the generators functioned in parallel, and provided appropriate interface and circuit protection between the hospital cogeneration plant and the SDG&E power grid. The cogeneration plant also has an 8,000-pound per hour steam output for hospital use.
The project team was able to achieve the project scope through successful application of their expertise in reference to plant configuration, equipment selection, siting, environmental compliance, and utility negotiations. LSW Engineers provided complete technical design services, technical input to APCD permitting, equipment purchase specifications, construction permitting, and construction administration.
LSW also provided A/E consulting as part of a major hospital expansion. Services included mechanical, plumbing, electrical engineering; initial study, in-depth feasibility study, schematics, design development, construction documents, construction administration.
