LSW acted as the prime consultant to Sempra Energy Solutions for design services. The Bunker Hill District Cooling Plant was built in the early 1960's, with 4500 tons capacity, initially. Later, the plant was expanded with the addition of two (2) 5000-ton electric driven chillers.

This project added another 5,000 tons using two (2) coupled electric driven 2500-ton chillers (each with two compressor/motor assemblies). In order to maintain the project schedule, LSW prepared pre-purchase specifications for direct purchase by Sempra. A special structural platform was designed by Brandow & Johnston to accommodate the two chillers, since the footprint of the two chillers is different from the existing single chiller. The chillers were shipped from the factory assembled. They were disassembled before being brought into place and reassembled in the plant.
